TIME-SENSITIVE ELECTION: April 1st Special Election for Wisconsin Supreme Court
Very important cases are pending before the Wisconsin Supreme Court and will be decided by who is elected in this race to replace a retiring Democratic Supreme Court justice. They include: 1) redrawing Congressional maps, and 2) reinstating an 1849 law banning abortions with no exceptions. Maintaining Democratic control is imperative. This race is our first opportunity on the road to flipping the House next year.
The Democratic candidate is Circuit Court Judge Susan Crawford and her win would retain the court’s Democratic 4-3 majority. Democrats regained control of the court in 2023 when Judge Janet Protasiewisc was elected. This new court subsequently redrew state legislative districts, resulting in a flip of 14 seats, breaking a Republican supermajority and giving Democratic governor Tony Evers veto power. If Democrats can maintain control of the courts in April, they will be poised to take control of the state legislature in 2026 and be one step closer to reversing an extreme congressional gerrymander and gaining control of the House.

Gavin Newsom’s Campaign for Democracy (CFD) launched its 2025 work in January with a priority to engage Republican representatives in California to demand an aid bill for wildfire victims with no conditions. Later in February, CFD will return with new training and onboarding for texters and additional campaigns which are TBD. If you’ve never texted before, Newsom’s training is excellent.
