Please review the following in advance to help ensure the event runs smoothly.
Note: We are expecting ~ 2,000 participants or more. A core principle behind all Hands Off! events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. All participants agree to assume 100% responsibility for their own safety, conduct and well-being, recognize that possible hazard exists in any large gatherings of people, and hold the organizers harmless.
Please consider your own well-being and plan accordingly for your personal needs:
Hydrate beforehand and bring additional water.
Wear hats and sunscreen.
Dress for the weather and for comfort. Participants will be on their feet throughout, so please wear comfortable shoes. There is very limited shade.
Parking is a 5-10 minute walk from the event site. Allow plenty of time to find parking and walk to the site.
There are approximately 30 handicapped parking spots. The demand for those spots may exceed supply. We encourage those who need assistance to carpool with others and get dropped off closer to the event location.
Please study the map below in advance:
We will be in the area labeled “Marin County Fair.” It is between the building marked “Marin Center Box Office” and “Marin Center Showcase Theatre.”
There are two major adjacent parking lots: 1) Near the Auditorium and 2) Near the Marin Center Exhibit Hall. Both involve an approximately five minute walk to the site. If those lots fill, we encourage you to find nearby street parking which may involve a longer walk.
This is what the event location looks like. Head toward the lagoon on the paved lot from either adjacent parking lot.
Parking & Transportation:
The Civic Center campus has ample parking throughout, but ride-share and public transportation are encouraged. Please note that the spring carnival will open at 12 noon at the Christmas tree lot and may impact parking. Please allow plenty of time to find a spot and walk to the event site. Public bike racks are available at Middle Arch Hall of Justice and South Arch Admin Building at the main Civic Center building.
Bathrooms: The bathrooms at the Exhibit Hall will be open for our use. See photo below.
Signs: Homemade signs are welcome and encouraged! If you are looking for some creative inspiration, this link provides excellent ideas and graphics.
Photography and social media posts: We are anticipating that photojournalists and other professional photographers will be present, as well as participants who will be taking their own photos. Photography at public events is considered public information. Also, posting photos from the rally to social media is a key aspect of how we will magnify our impact. For anyone who has concerns about their image ending up in a public post, please consider wearing items to lessen recognizability such as sunglasses, hats or masks.
Calls to Action: This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies. Yet, this national day of action is simply a moment in what needs to become a mass movement. To help be a part of the movement-building that is needed, we ask all rally participants to take the following actions:
ACTION #1: If you are not already part of a local action group, please join one. Below are links to sign up for the email lists of the three rally co-sponsors:
Indivisible Marin
Indivisible Novato
Indivisible West Marin
ACTION #2: Post-event, please share social media posts widely about the April 5 Hand Off events, as well as in your personal circles. AMPLIFICATION is a crucial outcome of our efforts today.
Thank you for standing up and raising your voices against the authoritarian takeover of our government. By taking action together, we can help build a more just, caring and inclusive America!
